Best Diet for Preventing Cavities

Best Diet for Preventing CavitiesPlaque causes tooth decay and tooth decay causes cavities. Cavities can cause tooth pain and require fillings in order to restore the teeth. The fewer cavities that you have, then the fewer toothaches you will have. For those who struggle with anxiety at the dentist, this means less amount of time that you will have to see your dentist. Extreme tooth decay will ultimately result in needing an emergency root canal.

By reviewing just a little bit of awareness about foods and drinks, you can keep your cavities to a minimum. The following are some steps you can take toward a cavity-prevention diet.

• Minimize sugary foods and drinks. Sugar is in almost everything, but it attacks your teeth with plaque-forming bacteria. You can offset the effects by rinsing your mouth out with water after every sugar snack or soda, or through better brushing and flossing.

• Maintain a high calcium intake. Teeth are essentially bones, so the same materials that make bones stronger will also make teeth stronger. While associable with fat, calcium can be easily recorded through green leafy vegetables and non-fat dairy products.

• Maintain a high intake of Vitamins C and D. Vitamin C is vital to the health of connective tissue, such as your gums. It can be found in citrus fruits and in some vegetables, such as broccoli and brussel sprouts. Vitamin D is the main conveyance for calcium, which it deposits throughout the skeletal system. A strong source of Vitamin D can be received through simple direct sunlight, of which 15 minutes can provide you with your allotment for the day.

Vitamins, minerals, and the right fruits and vegetables are indispensable to cavity prevention. Even the most dedicated brushers and flossers will have tooth problems if they do not get enough of these materials.
